This book, illustrated by 450 images, presents the works of 300 women photographers from around the world, from the invention of the medium until the dawn of the twenty-first century. Few of their names are known to us, having disappeared from the story in favor of the 'great masters'. The erasure of women in the history of photography results from a long tradition of discredit. Original and autonomous creators, they have never stopped documenting, questioning and transfiguring the world, demonstrating that the camera can be a fantastic tool for emancipation. No experimentation or noise of the 19th and 20th centuries escaped them. To reproduce the diversity of the backgrounds of these women photographers, Luce Lebart and Marie Robert invited 160 authors from different parts of the world to contribute to this manifesto."--Publisher's website,Une fabuleuse somme collective, un livre manifeste, un ouvrage de référence : telle est l'ambition de cet ouvrage co-construit par 160 autrices du monde entier qui présentent 300 femmes photographes, de l'invention du médium aux années 2000. Ainsi les portraits de chaque photographe ont été rédigés par des femmes de toute nationalité pour se prémunir de l'écueil d'un regard "occidentalo-centré". Les séquences de portraits alternent avec des portfolios qui font dialoguer les oeuvres entre elles.
